classic sailing yacht
Hallowe'en
In 1926, William Fife III launched the 24.7m cutter Hallowe’en. According to William Fife III, designer of a number of classic yachts still racing today, “Hallowe’en is the perfect gentleman’s yacht. She is a jewel”. When gaff-rigged racers dominated various regattas, he chose to rig the yacht as a low-aspect Bermudan cutter. Her mast and boom heights continued to change over the years, and eventually, she was transformed into a yawl.
Under new owner Alfred Larsen, a Norwegian industrialist, she returned to the Atlantic after racing in the Mediterranean for several years. The yacht became the official yacht of the Royal Norwegian Racing Club and was helmed by Prince Olaf numerous times. Following her transatlantic journey in 1938, she vanished from radar screens. She was further renamed Cotton Blosson IV by Walter Wheeler and continued her history of ocean racing before eventually being donated to the Classic Boat Museum in New Port, Rhode Island, for a much-needed refit. As a result of funds drying up in New Port, Hallowe’en was in need of a new owner and returned to the Mediterranean when Elizabeth Meyer (owner of J-Class Endeavour) assisted in finding a buyer.
From 1988 to 1991, Hallowe’en was carefully restored to her original lines at the Classic Boat Works in Newport, Rhode Island. All sawn English Oak frames were carefully repaired or replaced, and the planking was secured with bronze fasteners from the museum. Having undergone some major changes in France in 1994, she underwent another transformation in 1998, perhaps looking better now than ever. After several refits (and owners), she is now available for charter in the Mediterranean, where she races competitively in the classic regatta circuit spanning France, Corsica, Spain, and Italy. The latest refit was performed in 2009 by Fairlie Restorations on the Hamble river, UK.
Classic Charme
Hallowe’en is undoubtedly one of the most stunning yachts on the regatta scene. This fast and excellent Fife-built cruiser/racer is highly recommended for charter by anyone seeking a vintage wooden sailing yacht of the highest quality. In addition to being one of the most beautiful Fifes ever built, she is able to make fast passages across the oceans and still wins classic regattas. With her original mahogany interior, Hallowe’en is one of the finest vintage racing yachts in the Mediterranean.

Shortly afterwards, the yachts leave Ajaccio and set their course along the coast.

The first coastal race leads south, following the varied shoreline towards Portigliolo. The finish line is laid close to the beach, before the fleet moves into a sheltered anchorage in front of the Mare e Vela Nautical Base. After the intensity of the race, the afternoon slows naturally at anchor, with time to swim, rest and take in the quiet rhythm of the bay.
Sunset Drinks and Beach Dinner
As the light softens, guests gather ashore in Portigliolo for a relaxed welcome drink. The evening continues with a beachfront dinner, created in collaboration with Gloria Maris Groupe — a simple and informal setting, shaped by the sea and the last warmth of the day.

Soon after, the yachts lift anchor and line up for the start of the coastal race towards Propriano.Racing Along Corsica’s Scenic Coastline
The fleet follows the open shoreline of southern Corsica, where rocky headlands and small bays pass slowly abeam. The race is shaped by distance rather than manoeuvres. The finish is set just outside the harbour of Propriano. After crossing the line, the yachts move directly into the anchorage nearby.A Warm Welcome in Propriano

Wednesday, 26 August
Along the Quay in Propriano
Small movements on deck replace the stillness along the quay in Propriano. Crews gather without ceremony for the daily briefing. Course, weather and local conditions are confirmed, and the final lines and sails are prepared. Within minutes, the harbour opens ahead and the fleet settles into formation for the run south.
Open Water across the Gulf
Once clear of the headland, the yachts enter the broad sweep of the Gulf of Valinco. The regatta stretches out into a long, measured leg. Near Campomoro, the stone outline of the Torra di Campomoro comes into view from the sea, standing high above the village and signalling the final approach to the finish. After crossing the line, the fleet eases into the bay and anchors close to the shore.
Evening on the Fishermen’s Quay
Later in the afternoon, crews and guests go ashore in Campomoro for a relaxed welcome drink by the water. The evening continues at Bar des Amis, on the fishermen’s quay — an informal meeting point where the day’s sailing is quietly revisited over a late drink. The Day at a Glance

Weigh anchor in Campomoro

With final checks completed, anchors are lifted and the yachts set their course south towards Bonifacio.A Spectacular Route Along the Coast
The route follows the exposed shoreline of southern Corsica. Wind shifts and local currents demand steady attention as the fleet works its way along the coast. Late in the afternoon, the limestone cliffs of Bonifacio appear ahead, rising sharply from the sea. The final approach leads into the narrow, fjord-like entrance of the harbour — one of the most distinctive arrivals of the entire route.Inside the Natural Harbour
The final approach carries the yachts through the confined channel and into Bonifacio’s sheltered basin, directly beneath the old town.
Later, crews and guests go ashore for an informal welcome drink along the quay. The remainder of the night is free to explore the historic centre of Bonifacio, its narrow streets and viewpoints overlooking the strait. The Day at a Glance

Racing Around Bonifacio
Friday, 28 August
Short Coastal Races off the Cliffs
Activity returns to the water around Bonifacio, where the fleet takes part in a series of short coastal and round-the-buoy races close to the limestone cliffs and within the natural harbour. These local courses offer a different kind of challenge — more tactical and close-quarters than the longer legs of earlier days — and provide spectators with compelling views from the shore.
Racing Among Headlands and Bays
Throughout the day, crews engage in multiple starts and mark roundings, with the shifting breezes off the southern coast testing their responses as the yachts weave through changing conditions. The backdrop of Bonifacio’s dramatic cliffs and the narrow strait adds a unique character to these short encounters, blending competitive sailing with the striking natural setting that defines this corner of Corsica.
Cocktail and Celebration Ashore
As the races conclude, attention turns back to the harbourfront. A reception cocktail welcomes competitors and guests ashore, offering a relaxed setting to compare impressions of the day’s racing and to acknowledge standout performances. Later, a shared dinner brings the fleet together in an informal celebration — a final evening of fellowship beside the water before the week draws to a close.
The Day at a Glance
- Short Coastal Races off the Cliffs – Series of short races around Bonifacio’s headlands and within the natural harbour.
- Racing Among Headlands and Bays – Tactical courses in the lee of the limestone cliffs, shaped by local winds and currents.

Flexible Finale in Bonifacio
Saturday, 29 August
On Standby for Racing
Saturday in Bonifacio remains intentionally flexible. If wind and sea state allow, the race committee may schedule an additional day of short courses in the waters outside the harbour — a final opportunity to complete postponed races or to add local sailing to the programme.Alternative: A Day of Discovery
Should conditions be unsuitable for racing, the morning unfolds at a different pace. Crews might choose the time to explore the cliffs and viewpoints above the harbour, or to head out for a short cruise or swim in the surrounding waters of the Strait of Bonifacio.
An Evening Together in the Harbour
Regardless of how the day unfolds on the water, crews and guests come together again in the evening in Bonifacio.
A shared dinner and informal gathering close the sailing week in a relaxed setting, with time to reflect on the races, the passages and the places visited along the coast. The Day at a Glance

A Gentle Finale in Bonifacio
Sunday, 30 August
A Day Shaped by Wind and Weather
Crews gather informally for a late breakfast or a short, relaxed briefing, with no fixed schedule imposed on the morning. The intention is simple: to leave space for one last sail — if conditions allow — without the pressure of a formal race day.An Optional Closing Sail
If wind and visibility are favourable, the race committee may offer a short closing course outside the harbour. It is a compact and informal sail, designed less around competition than around sharing a final stretch of water together beneath the limestone cliffs and along the edge of the Strait of Bonifacio. Should conditions be unsuitable, the day remains open for a quiet cruise, a swim, or time ashore in the old town.
Preparing for the Final Evening
During the afternoon, attention gradually shifts back to the harbour.
