With the midday sun above, we board our classic yacht, setting sail after briefings and safety exercises. It’s a day filled with excitement, complemented by a delectable spread of snacks and refreshing drinks on deck, and the azure waters invite us to take a refreshing dip.

Barcelona, a city steeped in maritime history, is graced with the 17th edition of the Puig Vela Clàssica and, for the first time, the honour of hosting the world’s most renowned regatta, the 37th America’s Cup. This extraordinary event unites the globe’s most magnificent classic yachts, including our classic yacht SKY.
As we depart from our haven in Port Vell, we sail in the company of America’s Cup challengers and defenders, hailing from Great Britain, the USA, Italy, Switzerland, and New Zealand. With prevailing southerly winds of 9-15 knots, the stage is set for exceptional sailing. The boats converge at the starting line, each vying for the perfect position. Then, like a symphony of sails, they gracefully navigate past the beaches, lined with thousands of enthusiastic spectators who’ve transformed them into vast public viewing arenas.

However, we begin our day with a hearty breakfast, energizing ourselves for another thrilling maritime adventure.
Back at the marina, the atmosphere is electrifying. Over 400 participants and more than 50 yachts fill the waters for the Puig Vela Clàssica, each vessel showcasing its mastery to deliver an unforgettable spectacle to both competitors and eager spectators. Today, the reliable southern winds favour us again, guaranteeing excellent conditions for the race, which will span approximately 15 nautical miles with diverse courses.
The thrill of manoeuvring our yacht through the azure waters is unmatched, and the joy of crossing the finish line is an embodiment of our love for the sport. As the golden sun begins its descent and our yacht gracefully returns to the marina, we engage in an age-old maritime tradition, “Splice the Mainbrace,” with a collective toast to shared experiences and the captivating adventures that lie ahead.

The day commences with a grand procession of these magnificent yachts, captivating the public as they glide gracefully alongside the modern racing counterparts. Each yacht receives a regal introduction by Leonardo García de Vicentiis, President of the Spanish Vintage Boat Association, met with thunderous applause.
As the yachts hit the racecourse, the final competition kicks off with the innovative reverse start system, where each vessel sets sail one after the other in descending order of rating. This offers the thrilling possibility of a synchronized finish, with the first to cross the line hailed as the regatta victor in their class.
