Vela Clàssica Barcelona

7 - 12 July 2026

A Maritime Legacy

Vela Clàssica Barcelona – A Tribute to Maritime Heritage

From 7–12 July 2026, Barcelona will once again host the Vela Clàssica Barcelona, an event that quietly stands among the highlights of the classic sailing calendar.

Organised by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, the regatta brings together an impressive line-up of vintage and 12mR yachts, including Hallowe’en, Mariska, Kookaburra II, French Kiss and Kiwi Magic. Their presence along the city’s waterfront adds a touch of timeless grace to a coastline better known for its modern rhythm.

Since the 37th America’s Cup in 2024, Barcelona has remained a natural meeting place for sailors who value tradition as much as progress. The Vela Clàssica reflects that spirit — understated, elegant, and unmistakably Mediterranean.

Set against the backdrop of one of Europe’s most distinctive cities, the regatta offers a few days of fine sailing, good company, and quiet appreciation of the sea.

Long Story Short: What is the Vela Clàssica Barcelona?

The Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona is one of the Mediterranean’s most distinguished gatherings for classic and vintage yachts. Held each summer and organised by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, it celebrates the grace, craftsmanship, and enduring spirit of traditional sailing.

Sponsored by Puig, the renowned Barcelona-based fashion and fragrance house, the regatta brings together a remarkable fleet of historic yachts from around the world. Beyond the competition itself, the event reflects a shared appreciation for maritime heritage — days shaped by the wind and the sea, and evenings marked by the easy rhythm of Mediterranean life.

What’s the Weather Like in Barcelona During the Vela Clàssica?

The Vela Clàssica Barcelona takes place in mid-July – one of the finest times of year to sail the Catalan coast. Barcelona enjoys settled summer conditions: warm, sunlit days around 27–31 °C (81–88 °F) and mild evenings of 21–23 °C (70–73 °F). With around nine to ten hours of sunshine each day, skies are mostly clear, and the evening light reflects beautifully across Port Vell and the open sea.

Winds are generally light to moderate, between 8 and 15 knots (15–28 km/h / 9–17 mph), most often from the south or southeast. These are the local garbí thermal winds, building gently through the afternoon and offering ideal conditions for classic yacht racing. Occasionally, a soft levante brings a cooler breeze from the east, adding variety to the day’s sailing. Rain is rare, and sea conditions remain calm to moderate.

Sea temperatures hover around 23–24 °C (73–75 °F), perfect for a swim after racing or a relaxed evening dip.

What should I pack?
Light, breathable clothing is best during the day, along with good sun protection, sunglasses, and a cap or hat. Evenings stay warm but can feel softer by the water, so a light jumper or windbreaker is useful. On board, wear non-slip deck shoes with light soles.

In short:

Warm air, steady garbí winds, and clear horizons — July in Barcelona offers perfect sailing conditions, a touch of Mediterranean ease, and just enough breeze to keep every sailor smiling.

Sky

A timeless Masterpiece: Classic Sailing Yacht SKY
Discover the yacht SKY, a paragon of British craftsmanship crafted in 1890 by the shipyard Thetis Ware in the United Kingdom. As the oldest yacht competing in classic regattas, she reflects a storied past melded with modern amenities. Her oak hull and sweeping teak decks have witnessed the sea’s ever-changing tides, just as they have witnessed the laughter and conversations of many guests over more than 130 years. With space for twelve, SKY offers a sanctuary on the waves for those who appreciate the fusion of classic design with contemporary comforts.

Sailing with a Star

SKY’s guest book reads like a who’s who of the elite, once gracing silver screen siren Brigitte Bardot, with its opulence. Her passage aboard SKY has left an indelible mark, blending Hollywood glamour with nautical prestige. Today, guests can walk the same decks and bask in the same luxurious ambience that once hosted this star, all while making their own memories against the backdrop of the Azure Mediterranean.

A Journey Through Maritime History

SKY’s meticulous restoration has ensured that her spirit sails on. A professional crew ensures smooth sailing, whether you’re cutting through the waves in a regatta or cruising the Riviera at leisure. SKY is more than a vessel; she’s an experience, an invitation to partake in the elegance of yachting’s golden age. As Noblesse Yachts now offer SKY for charter, seize the opportunity to be part of the legendary regattas in the Mediterranean sea, and perhaps, just perhaps, capture the spirit of her famed guests for your own sea tale.

Sailing Heritage

SKY, a classic 1890 gaff-rigged yawl, marries historical elegance with modern luxury. Built by Thetis Ware in the UK, she features an oak hull, teak decks, and mahogany interiors across 85 feet. Accommodating 12 guests for regattas and cruising and 4 guests overnight, SKY sails at 7.5 knots, equipped for both regattas and leisurely cruises, blending tradition with contemporary navigation.
Notably, SKY holds the distinction of being the oldest yacht participating in classic regattas, showcasing her timeless allure and enduring legacy on the seas.

    Dawn of Competition

Barcelona wakes to the XIX Puig Vela Clàssica, a gathering where sailing tradition takes centre stage. Among the fleet, Hallowe’en, Sky and Orianda stand ready alongside some of the world’s most admired classic yachts.

    Perfect Mediterranean Conditions

Departing from Port Vell, we catch a steady southerly breeze of around 9 to 15 knots — perfect conditions for the day’s racing. From the beaches, spectators watch as the fleet sets off, a graceful sight against the city’s horizon.

In the marina, preparations are underway for the day’s race. We join a fleet of more than fifty classic yachts and over four hundred sailors on a 15-nautical-mile course, carried by steady southern winds. Between tacks and jibes, light refreshments are served on deck — a brief pause to catch your breath and take in the sea around you.

    Celebration Under the Stars
On returning to port, tradition calls for “Splice the Mainbrace” — a simple toast to the crew and the day behind us. Day 5 - Final Race Day and Celebratory Finale

    saturday

    11 July

    Preparations and Procession

On the final day of the Vela Clàssica Barcelona, the marina is already alive with crews making ready for the open sea. The day begins with a procession of classic yachts gliding past the harbour wall, their lines admired by those gathered along the quay.

    Innovative Reverse Start System

Out on the water, the rhythm feels familiar — sails trimmed, quiet focus, each yacht finding its place before the start. Those who wish may lend a hand: hoisting the mainsail, sheeting in the staysail, or fine-tuning the genoa. The yacht heels, gathers speed, and with full sail and steady course, we cross the starting line for the final time. As the race begins, the fleet follows the innovative reverse-start format: each yacht sets off in descending order of rating, one after another. It’s a system that brings every competitor together at the finish — the first across the line crowned winner of their class.

    Grand Finale and Closing Ceremony

After the final race, the crews gather once more for the prize-giving — a quiet moment between sailors and the sea that has tested them. Applause follows, a few words are exchanged, and stories begin to form. As the sun fades, a glass is raised, perhaps a cigar lit — a simple close to a week of good sailing and easy friendship.

    The Day at a Glance

    • Preparations and Procession: Grand yacht procession, mesmerizing onlookers at the marina.

    • Reverse Start: Compete with the innovative reverse start system for a thrilling synchronized finish.
